Sports Medicine

Sports Medicine encompasses the medial, surgical and rehabilitative services that treat injuries from sports activities and overuse syndromes.  Acute injuries such as an ACL (knee ligament) tear, or overuse such as Little Leaguer’s Shoulder all benefit from a surgeon who treats the spectrum of athletic injuries and has an awareness of the demands of different sports. Clinical judgment of when a patient may safely resume professional or recreational activity, and how to prevent a further injury, are critical elements provided by our Sports Medicine specialists. We are pleased that the Oakland Athletics continues to choose our surgeons for their orthopedic needs.

Knee & Shoulder Arthroscopy

Arthroscopy allows diagnosis and treatment of knee and shoulder disorders by providing a clear view of the inside of the joint, using an arthroscope inserted through small incisions. The arthroscope transmits an image of your knee through a small camera to a TV monitor, which allows the surgeon to examine the interior of your knee and determine the source of the problem. During the procedure, the surgeon can also remove or repair damaged tissues by inserting surgical instruments through other small incisions.
