 Dr.
Robert Rovner grew
up in Washington,
D.C. and attended
college and medical
school at the
University of
Maryland from 1971
to 1979. He and his
wife relocated to
California in 1979
to raise a family
(two children),
completing an
internship and
residency in
Orthopaedic Surgery
at the University of
California at Irvine
from 1979 to 1984.
Dr. Rovner then
completed a one year
fellowship in
reconstructive spine
surgery at the
University of
Southern California,
Rancho Los Amigos
Medical Center from
1984 to 1985,
specializing in
scoliosis and spinal
cord injury. He
passed his
Orthopaedic Surgery
Boards with a 99
percentile national
ranking in 1987, and
has re-certified in
1997 and 2007. He is
also board certified
in Spine Surgery by
the American Board
of Spine Surgeons.
He entered private
practice in 1985 and
has been practicing
in the East Bay
since that time.
In over twenty
years of private
practice, Dr. Rovner
has performed over
four thousand spinal
operations involving
the
cervical, thoracic,
and lumbar spine
with successful
outcomes. These
include surgery for
degenerative,
congenital and
developmental
conditions such as
scoliosis, disc
herniation, and disc
degeneration in
pediatric and adult
patients, with an
emphasis on minimal
surgery and rapid
return to work and
function. Despite
the volume, "every
patient is special
to me, and has my
undivided
attention".
Dr. Rovner is
currently a
volunteer faculty
member at the
University of
California at Davis
Medical School,
working as
Assistant Professor
in the Department of
Orthopaedic Surgery,
focusing on
pediatric and adult
spine surgery. He
has in the past
volunteered his time
in several East Bay
CCS clinics,
providing
consultation and
surgery to children
with cerebral palsy
and other childhood
Orthopaedic
conditions. He has
been invited to
speak as a guest
lecturer on various
topics in spine
surgery, and works
as a consultant in
developing new
spinal techniques
and implants as well
as working for their
approval by the FDA.
He is a frequent
consultant on
difficult medical
legal spinal surgery
cases on a national
basis.
Dr. Rovner has
special interests in
pediatric and adult
spinal deformity,
spinal microsurgery,
and the development
of new techniques in
minimally invasive
reconstructive
surgery of the
spine. He is proud
to be a member of
the Webster Spine
Institute, a group
of fellowship
trained physicians
within Webster
Orthopaedic Medical
Group dedicated to
treatment of spinal
disorders, both
surgically and
non-operatively. He
sees patients in our
Oakland and San
Ramon offices. |
